Horse-drawn hearse

For those seeking a farewell that offers deep symbolism and a profound connection with the past, a horse and carriage hearse delivers a memorable tribute with grace and tradition.

A tradition that speaks volumes

Since Victorian times, horse-drawn funeral processions have carried Londoners down familiar streets in a calm, respectful procession. The steady clip-clop of hooves brings a moment of pause - a slower pace in a fast-moving world. It often draws neighbours into silent tribute as the horse and carriage pass by.

We use impeccably trained Belgian Black horses, available in either a pair or a team of four, in classic black or distinguished grey. It's expensive, rich in meaning, and can be deeply moving.

What we provide

  • A horse-drawn hearse led by either two or four horses.
  • The horses can be blacks or greys, with either a black or white hearse.
  • You can choose the colour of the ostrich feathers that the horses wear.
  • Includes professional coordination, ceremonial pacing, and consultation with families for route and timing.

What happens on the day:

  • The hearse can come to your choice of address or venue.
  • You're welcome to say hello to the horses (the driver will tell you their names).
  • A procession of horse and hearse at trotting pace.
  • Accompanying vehicles - if needed - keep close, honouring the horses' safety and pace.
  • We'll take care of all participants; special arrangements may be made for urban routes or crowds, and the distance that the horses may travel on metalled roads is limited for their health and safety.
